The influence of both Alexander Calder and Paul Klee is plain to see. I chose to do this composition in primarily line, shape and colour because these elements are dominant in many of their collective works. Hopefully there is enough of my own in it to set it somewhat apart and create an interesting departure.
Recently when I was at the Art institute of Chicago they had a Calder mobile that was low to the ground and behind a small roped off area. I watched this little boy run over, go under the rope and start hitting it like it was a colourful toy. The security guard was a distance away and it looked to me like his feet didn’t even touch the ground as he flew over to stop the boy.
